class treaty reflectionn

in class we have been learning about the treaty of waitangi,now we are making our own class treaty it was difficult at the start because everyone was talking over each other so we took a person out of the groups and they made the rule once they had done that they told the rest of us the ideas and if everyone agreed or disagreed and what changes needed to be made.

Novel study - TWTWB chapter 21-22

 


chapter 21 questions

  1. adrenaline was taking over. 
  2. with the truck that holds gasoline so when it is lit on fire it explodes and blows up the bridge.
  3. when they were going to blow up the bridge w the truck they planned it out unlike when they blew up the lawnmower. 

chapter 22 questions

  1.  Kevin cares more about her now because they have gotten closer but if they had to do this awhile a go he would have made her go on her own so they have more people in the bigger group of people
epilogue questions:
  1.  shes worried about what will happen in the future and what might go wrong and if the wrong person finds the book.  
  2.  they might be able to go to the hospital but Kevin would probably get sent to the showground

textiles - commercial patterns

In textiles we have been working on making a clothing item , I am making a skirt there was a verity of patterns to pick from from pants to hoodies.
We spent a couple periods making and cutting out the patterns

we choose a fabric we liked and was the right type for the pattern I picked out a leaped print fabric similar to this one then cut out the fabric and sew them together with an overlocker.

Novel study - TWTWB chapter 17-20





 chapter 17 questions 

  1. she thinks that he might start taking more and more things that they don't need or that just aren't helpful.  
  2. two of them died when the explosion happen - Ellie seen one of them when she was leaving and said they look like they were around the same age and were probably as scared as they were - she felt sick that she killed people even though they would have killed the three of them if they didn't do anything to stop them.
  3. they want a clean war so that america or county's like america doesn't get involved - they also don't want anyone to think that they have concentration camps even though they might have some.
  4. so that when they do colonise Australia they have clean homes to live in - they also get some of them to take anything that looks valuable maybe to sell or maybe just to have

  1.  because they all walked in a orderly form and had uniforms and weapons 
  2.  making plans on how they can approach them properly, being careful about how the move around/travel to different places and where the soldiers might be

  1. because she knows she wont be a hero if something bad happens because all the things shes doing is just stuff she does every day 
  2.  i guess true courage is when your really scared but still do it 
  3.  the truck didn't start at first and that it would get stuck on the bottom of the bridge and explode while they were in it

English-week 2 work

Define the word 'dystopia'
 a place were there is great suffering or injustice or it  post-apocalyptic.

jovial- happy,cheerful or friendly.

paraphernalia-stuff need for particular activities such as home improvements
interminably-endless or apparently endless
petulantly- a manner  like they are acting childish or bad-tempered

Why do you think think this is a dystopian story? Does it remind you of any others?

Questions for the "the lottery" story.
1. Describe the setting, using specific details from the story in your answer.
it starts as a clear sunny day.the people of the village began to gather in the square,bank and post office at around 10 o'clock.

2. Explain the feelings of most people in town toward the lottery.
they seemed like they would be nervous and not looking forward to it,i don't think the children fully understand what is actually know what its about unlike the adults that do know what it is.

3. What evidence is there that the lottery has been going on for a long time?
A old man called Old Man Warner says in the test somewhere "seventy-seventh year i been in the lottery" he is also the oldest man in the town and the box is even older then him.

4. What is Old Man Warner’s attitude about those who would like to change  things? 
he doesn't like that idea probably because its a tradition that has being happening for decades and that anyone that wants to change it are fools.

5. Explain how the lottery works.
every year the town people gather in the a spot (most likely the town square) the children are usually first because school finishes for the summer recently,they go and collect stones and rocks which will get thrown at the family who gets the paper with the black circle that is contained in a black box filled with black pieces or paper and only one has a black circle on it that was drawn on by coal and how it all works is that the family that gets the paper with the black circle goes to the front of the crowd and get stones thrown at them.the process usually takes two hours depending on how many people are in the village.

6. In what way is the title, “The Lottery”, misleading?  Why would the author  want to trick the reader by having a misleading title?
well we all know that the word lottery is when you buy a ticket and have a chance to win money and in the story it isn't like that,so the title is to get more people to read i think its and interesting name for a book but it goes well because if you think about it all the people that don't get the paper with the black paper win so i can see why it would be called that.

what does smoking do to your body?
smoking can cause dangers mutations (eg. cancer)
thicken blood walls
for woman it can make it harder to get pregnant
and for males it can lead to them not being able to have an erection

long term effects?
loss of smell
high risk of a stroke or heart attack
teeth get tar build up and can fall out over time
coughing and dizziness

benefits of giving it up?
your body starts to get healthier and less of a chance to getting cancer or having a stroke

is vaping any better?
vaping is less harmful then smoking but is still bad because it inflames your lungs
