  • Research- This story is set in Italy in the cities of Venice and Belmont. Create a digital guide of the cities. Make sure to give interesting facts about the locations, places to see and things to do.
  • Musical This story opens with themes of love, power, money and religion. Find a song that could be played in the background during a scene in act one. Tell us where in the play you would play it, why you have chosen it and how you think it fits the mood of the story.

Shakespeare: The Merchant of Venice. Act 1 scene 1-3


  1. Antonio is depressed without knowing why. What two possible reasons do his friends suggest?because all of his money is on a boat.t that he is emotional
  2. Do you think Gratiano’s contributions help Antonio’s mood? maybe a little bit but not much
  3. What are your first impressions of Bassanio?he sounds like a rude person.
  4. Is he in love?maybe because he wants to marry her for her money but he also said that she was really beautiful
  5. Why does he need to borrow money again now? so that he can try marry this woman.

  1. How do Portia’s first words compare with Antonio’s? they are both showing that they are sad, we know why Portia is sad but not why Antonio is.
  2. What is the reason for her mood?that she doesn't want to marry some but her father is making her.
  3. Do you think Nerissa is a help to her?I think that she is a little help but somethings she cant help with.
